Over the weekend we made improvements to our database cluster to provide additional resilience in the event there is a datacenter outage. Traffic spiked Monday morning (and evening) at rates faster than our autoscaling rules were calibrated for. This resulted in slow API responses and an elevated number of "gateway timeout" errors. We recalibrated our autoscaling rules to better match the traffic pattern to our new database cluster.
